Amending Patent’s particulars

Assignment of patents rights or merger of the owner

Following the filing of an application for granting a patent or the grant of a patent, the beneficiary may assign their rights as a result of the application submission.

Filing the assignment

You may submit an application for change of owner (beneficiary) of an application for granting a patent or of a patent (form Π.3) by hand/post, accompanied by:

  • the original or a true copy of the assignment or merger agreement or, in case of an assignment within 9 months from the grant date of a European patent, documentary evidence such as EPO Form 2544,
  • form for authorising an agent (form Π.8) in case where a power of attorney covering the said procedure has not already been filed;
  • certified translation in the Greek language in case where the relevant documents are not in Greek, either by an affidavit or by sworn translator of the Republic of Cyprus; and
  • the fee of one hundred euros (€100) payable in cash, by cheque, via an account maintained with the Department of the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property or via bank transfer).

You are advised to refer to the main criteria of review so as to acquire a better understanding what is required and to facilitate the process further.

Provided that the Intellectual Property Section is satisfied that all, relevant to the circumstances, legal requirements have been met,he will proceed with filing of the changes, updating patents register, the issue of a certificate of change of ownership and, in case where the assignment concerns a granted patent, the publication of such changes.

In case you wish to secure the issue of certified copies, you can submit a request for obtaining certified copies of a patent.
