Duration of protection

By securing a supplementary protection certificate for pharmaceutical and plant protection products, the protection period of the product's invention is extended after the twenty-year (20) protection of the patent for up to five (5) additional years.

Paediatric medicinal products

In the event that the medicinal product undergoes paediatric investigation, its protection period can be extended for up to further six (6) months from the expiry date of the twenty-five (25) year period, by submitting a letter by hand / post and paying the fee of two hundred and fifty euro (€250).
